The Nigerian Lawyers’ Chess Tournament (NLCT) is set to be the flagship event of our Initiative, aiming to bring together legal practitioners from across the country in a celebration of strategic thinking and camaraderie. This groundbreaking tournament is exclusively open to Nigerian lawyers, with the only requirement for participation being a valid license to practice in Nigerian courts.

“The Nigerian Lawyers Chess Tournament (NLCT) remains the signature event of The Lawyers’ Chess Initiative (TLCI), firmly establishing itself as the premier platform for competitive chess within the legal community. The inaugural edition, which took place from 27 to 30 November 2024, brought together 29 players from diverse legal backgrounds in a vibrant display of intellect, strategy, and camaraderie. Over the course of four days, participants engaged in a fiesta of games, culminating in the emergence of a winner and four runners-up.
In a celebration of excellence, the top five participants were rewarded with cash prizes of ₦500,000, ₦300,000, ₦200,000, ₦100,000, and ₦50,000 respectively—underscoring TLCI’s commitment to both competitiveness and recognition of outstanding talent.
